1-3 Bromfield Street

History

This house was listed as “circa 1870,” but it wasn’t on any map through 1906, and I found its first appearance on the map in 1915. If this house were truly built around 1870, it would have been moved here, but I think the date was just incorrect.

The first mention I could find of this address in the newspapers was for Joseph Liberty, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1917, and resided at 1 Bromfield. Joseph was living with his parents on Unicorn Street as of the 1910 census, so he must have moved to 1 Bromfield with his newlywed wife sometime after 1914. He was just 23 years old at the time of the accident.
