47 Ashland Street

History

The original builder of the house is undocumented. Still, it was likely built as speculative housing at the end of the 19th century. Robert Alfred Rodigrass was listed as the head of household, renting 47 Ashland (earlier listed as 47 1/2 Ashland), as early as the 1900 census. He married Agnes Lucy Johnston in 1886 and had children in 1889, 1891, and 1894, so it seems likely he lived in the house soon after it was built.

Mary E. Pitts (maiden name, Merritt) appears to have lived in this home after the death of her husband, John B. Pitts, in 1910. It looks like she moved to 45 Ashland, next door, until she died in 1928.
